Breaking: Sultan of Sokoto Announces First Day of Safar 1448AH:

 The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, declared Thursday, July 16, 2026, as the first day of Safar 1448AH The declaration followed the failure of moonsighting committees across Nigeria to confirm the sighting of the Safar crescent on Tuesday, July 14 The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs issued the announcement, signed by the Waziri of Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu.

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, has officially announced the commencement of Safar 1448AH following the sighting and verification of the new crescent moon.

According to the announcement, the first day of Safar 1448AH will be observed by Muslims across Nigeria from the declared date, marking the end of the Islamic month of Muharram and the beginning of the second month in the Islamic calendar.

The Sultan urged Muslims to continue praying for peace, unity, security, and national development, while encouraging adherence to Islamic values throughout the new month.

The announcement was made through the National Moon Sighting Committee and is in line with established Islamic procedures for determining the start of a new lunar month in Nigeria.

Muslims are encouraged to observe the month with renewed devotion and continue acts of worship and charity.
