The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service says it is reviewing its Fire Router Scheme to improve its effectiveness and increase adoption across Abuja.
The Fire Router Scheme is a technology-driven initiative that connects buildings directly to the FCT Fire Emergency Monitoring Gateway. When smoke or fire is detected, the installed device automatically sends an alert to the Fire Service, enabling firefighters to respond more quickly. The initiative was launched in 2024 as part of efforts to modernize emergency response and reduce losses from fire outbreaks.
According to the review, the Fire Service is assessing:
- The level of compliance by public and private buildings.
- The performance and reliability of the fire router devices.
- Ways to improve installation, monitoring, and emergency response.
- Public awareness and stakeholder participation in the scheme.
The review comes as authorities continue to strengthen fire prevention measures following several major fire incidents in the FCT, with officials emphasizing that early detection and rapid response can significantly reduce damage to lives and property.
